Simon Paton is a bassist, composer, researcher and event curator based in Birmingham, UK. He is currently commencing a PhD at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire searching for a shared musical language for improvising ensembles of different musical backgrounds. This performance will be an improvised piece that explores five specific areas of Paton’s playing – jazz phrasing, rock language, extended techniques, noise and atonal modernism – and how they can be combined and juxtaposed with each other.
